Baladna to Launch Multi-Million-Dollar Dairy Facility in Ogun State, Nigeria

Qatar’s largest dairy producer, Baladna, has unveiled plans to establish a multi-million-dollar dairy and food processing facility in Nigeria’s Ogun State, signaling a major boost to the country’s domestic agriculture sector.

The announcement came during a visit by Baladna executives to Ogun State Governor Dapo Abiodun in Abeokuta, accompanied by Aisha Rimi, Executive Secretary of the Nigeria Investment Promotion Commission (NIPC).

Governor Abiodun hailed the investment as a milestone for the state’s agro-industrial growth, stressing that Ogun offers a conducive environment for such ventures given its proximity to key consumer markets and business-friendly climate. “This investment aligns with our commitment to transform Ogun into a hub for agricultural innovation, food security, and job creation,” he said.

The project is expected to support Nigeria’s efforts to cut down on the $1.5 billion annual dairy import bill by building a robust local production system. Baladna, renowned for operating the world’s largest integrated dairy farm and producing over 1.7 billion litres of milk annually in Algeria, intends to replicate its successful model in Nigeria by investing in farmland, feasibility studies, and processing infrastructure.

NIPC’s Aisha Rimi described the development as a strategic win for Nigeria’s investment drive, noting that it reflects growing international confidence in the country’s agricultural potential.

Ogun State’s Growing Industrial Profile

Ogun State is fast becoming a leading destination for industrial investment in Nigeria. In recent months:

  • Mamuda Beverages, a subsidiary of Mamuda Group Nigeria Limited, committed $50 million to develop a new processing facility that will cover food, personal care, and agro-processing sectors.
  • A strategic power agreement was signed with Brazil’s Ambar Energia to improve electricity supply to key industrial zones including Ijebu-Ode and Atan-Agbara.
  • Inner Galaxy Group is developing a $400 million Stellar Steel Plant in Sagamu, expected to generate over 3,500 jobs and significantly cut Nigeria’s $4 billion steel import costs.

These developments underscore Ogun State’s emergence as a magnet for high-impact investments, reinforcing its role in Nigeria’s broader economic transformation agenda.
