FoodCo mulls strategies to help women survive daily pressure

Nigerian Women Encouraged to Develop Resilience for Daily Challenges

Nigerian women have been urged to equip themselves with essential skills to better navigate everyday pressures.

This message was emphasized during the Women’s Health and Personal Effectiveness Conference, organized by leading retailer FoodCo in celebration of International Women’s Day 2025.

In her keynote speech, Funmi Aiyepeku, Chief Commercial Officer of FoodCo, highlighted the vital role women play in fostering sustainable societies. She stated: *“Women are the foundation of society, given their essential roles in raising future generations. Despite historical challenges, they have emerged as leaders, innovators, and change-makers. As a family-oriented brand, we acknowledge the many responsibilities women manage daily. That is why we put together this seminar—to support their personal growth and enhance their effectiveness in different roles.”*

Speaking at the event, Dr. Nneka Asuai Iyonmahan, a medical officer at Reliance Health, underscored the importance of addressing women’s mental well-being. She noted that according to the World Health Organization (WHO), one in four Nigerians experience mental health issues, but access to care is often hindered by limited funding and a shortage of trained professionals.

She explained: *“Women, traditionally seen as caregivers, also contend with increasing socio-economic pressures. Many neglect their own well-being while prioritizing others. To build resilience, women must take proactive steps such as setting achievable goals, celebrating progress, prioritizing self-care, and fostering positive relationships to maintain emotional balance.”*

Temilade Ogunniyi, a career development strategist, advised women to look beyond productivity alone in defining success. Instead, she encouraged them to embrace positive mindset shifts, leadership, strong relationships, and adaptability.

She stated: *“Women drive societal progress, and personal effectiveness is key to excelling in their careers. Success is about cultivating the right habits with consistent, intentional actions. Small, consistent efforts have a lasting impact, and adaptability is crucial. By mastering one principle at a time and turning ideas into habits, women can overcome challenges, thrive, and lead with confidence.”*
