Segilola Resources Operating Limited (SROL), operator of Nigeria’s first commercial gold mine, has emerged as one of the top winners at the maiden Solid Minerals Excellence Awards (SOMEA) held in Abuja, earning recognition for its safety standards and community impact.
According to a statement from the company, the awards ceremony brought together key stakeholders across Nigeria’s solid minerals industry to celebrate performance, innovation, and operational excellence.
Multiple Wins for SROL
SROL received five nominations and clinched three major awards, including:
- Gold Mining Company of the Year
- Outstanding Gold Producer of the Year (Main Category)
- Outstanding Gold Producer of the Year (Mines Inspectorate Category)
Corporate Affairs Manager, Ijeoma Ohiaeri, said the awards highlight the company’s commitment to responsible mining.
“Our commitment to excellence and responsible mining goes far beyond accolades; it is deeply rooted in the company’s ethos and values,” she noted.
Operational Excellence and Safety
In 2025, the Segilola Gold Mine produced 94,130 ounces of gold, reinforcing its position as a leading operator in Nigeria’s mining sector. The company also earned recognition for occupational health and safety performance, supported by its SROLSafe management framework.
SROL emphasised that safety remains central to its operations, alongside strict compliance with industry standards. The company continues to invest in sustainable community engagement programmes and development initiatives across its host communities.
